Delhi Capitals kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Punjab Kings on March 23. They play five games in the first leg of IPL 2024. After Punjab, they take on Rajasthan Royals (March 28), CSK (March 31), KKR (April 3) and Mumbai Indians (April 7).

Rishabh Pant is back in the squad after missing out on playing the last season after his unfortunate car crash. Delhi have the core of their side well reigned with Pant, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Anrich Nortje.

Pant has almost regained his full fitness and is raring to go. It will be interesting to see how he turns up this season. With the T20 World Cup coming up, Pant has to make an impactful performance to get his place back in the side.

Delhi roped in new players in the IPL 2024 auction namely, Harry Brook (Rs. 4 crore), Tristan Stubbs (Rs. 50 lakhs), Ricky Bhui (Rs. 20 lakhs), Kumar Kushagra (Rs. 7.20 crore), Rasikh Dar (Rs. 20 lakhs), Jhye Richardson (Rs. 5 crores), Sumit Kumar (Rs. 1 crore), Shai Hope (Rs. 75 lakhs), Swastik Chhikara (Rs. 20 lakhs).

Recently Lungi Ngidi pulled out of the IPL 2024 season and he was replaced by Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk. Harry Brook who was one of the costliest buys for Delhi in the auction has also pulled out due to personal reasons.

In this article, we predict Delhi Capitals’ best XI heading into the IPL 024 season. Having added enough backups they have plenty of options to choose from. DC finished ninth last season and will look for a better performance this season.

David Warner

David Warner will open the innings for the Capitals. Despite Delhi’s below-par season last year, the southpaw scored 516 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36.86 and a strike rate touching 150. Warner will not lead DC this season.

Prithvi Shaw

Shaw was retained by the franchise despite a few below-par seasons. He scored 283 runs in IPL 2022 and 106 runs last year. He is not among the top-scorers in the Ranji Trophy this season.

Mitchell Marsh / Jake Fraser McGurk

Marsh will bat at three. The Australian all-rounder is expected to lead his side in the T20 World Cup 2024. e has had a good 12 months and would like to make an impact in this year’s IPL. He recently won the World Cup with Australia scoring nearly 500 runs for the team. McGurk can be the other option at three. He recently made his white-bal debut in the series against West Indies.

Rishabh Pant (C/WK)

Pant will bat at four and lead Delhi Capitals. The cricketing world is looking forward to his comeback after his unfortunate injury. He will have to make an impactful comeback to get back his place in the side. Pant is inching closer to 2000 IPL runs as well.

Shai Hope

Hope can play as an out-and-out batter at number five. He provides enough flexibility to the batting order as well and can be a backup-keeping option for Pant. He can also help Pant with his leadership experience.

Axar Patel

Patel can slot in at six as the specialist all-rounder. He has so far picked up 54 wickets for DC and scored 732 runs in 68 games for the Capitals. He should play all the matches barring any injury concerns.

Lalit Yadav

Lalit Yadav can bat at seven as the other all-rounder. He bowls quality off spin and can tonk the ball in the final overs. In case they want a batter, they can play Yash Dhull as well.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep will be the wicket-taking specialist spinner in the Delhi lineup. He picked 22 wickets for Delhi in IPL 2022 and just 10 wickets next season. He will head into this IPL after a successful Test series against England where he ended up picking 19 wickets in four Test matches.

Ishant Sharma

The veteran Ishant Sharma can lead the Delhi pace attack. He was retained by the franchise because of his experience. He picked up 10 wickets last season. His best year in the IPL was 2015 when he picked 15 wickets.

Khaleel Ahmed

Khaleel Ahmed will be the second Indian pacer in the lineup. He has not been in the Indian cricket circuit for the last few years. He has picked up 25 wickets in 19 games in the last two seasons for Delhi.

Anrich Nortje

Nortje concludes the playing XI for Delhi Capitals. He missed the IPL last season with an injury but is expected to play this season. He is out since September 2023 with a back injury and missed the World Cup. His fitness will be monitored in the IPL.

Impact Sub: Mukesh Kumar

Delhi Capitals can use Mukesh Kumar Impact sub. Off late he has bowled well for the Indian team at the death and the Capitals can use that potential. He recently played for the Indian team as well.
