Following CSK’s victory over GT, an intriguing moment unfolded as players exchanged greetings. Mohit Sharma notably removed his cap as a sign of respect before shaking hands with MS Dhoni. Both players shared a brief conversation while shaking hands.

MS Dhoni Has Strated To Trust Ruturaj Gaikwad – Irfan Pathan

Dhoni stepped down from the captaincy of the Chennai team before the start of the tournament. Ruturaj Gaikwad was named as his successor at the five-time IPL champions. Ruturaj has displayed calmness and composure similar to Dhoni’s in the first two games.

Irfan Pathan disclosed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s close mentorship under MS Dhoni during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Pathan highlighted Dhoni’s trust in Gaikwad, allowing him autonomy in decision-making, a shift from past experiences with Ravindra Jadeja.

“What has happened is last to last year, when Vijay Hazare was going on, he was spending lot of time with MS Dhoni. After the game, he used to spend time with Dhoni and he learned a lot of tricks. That preparation started long back, about one and a half years ago. At the same time, Fleming as a coach, has a lot of leadership courses as well. So obviously, he has attended that as well. That helps,” Pathan told ESPNCricinfo.

“And now, Dhoni has started to trust him and said, okay, what mistake we did with Ravindra Jadeja as a leader, we don’t want to do the same mistakes. We want to give more responsibility to our captain, which is Ruturaj Gaikwad. He is a young captain, so let him make more decisions.”

Gaikwad has a remarkable record as a consistent run-scorer in the IPL, amassing over 1200 runs across the last three seasons. He claimed the Orange Cap in 2021 with an impressive tally of 635 runs. He played a significant role in CSK’s victories in both 2021 and 2023.

The 27-year-old scored 15 runs from 15 deliveries against RCB, followed by a stronger performance in the next game, scoring 46 runs from 36 balls. Presently, he stands as the third-highest run scorer for his team, trailing behind Shivam Dube and Rachin Ravindra.
