Virat Kohli is all set to commence his journey in IPL 2024 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Ahead of the IPL 2024 opener, Australia batsman Steve Smith decoded Virat Kohli’s favorite shot i.e. cover drive. Steve Smith also said cover drive is his favourite shot and he likes Virat Kohli’s cover drive the most in the world.

Steve Smith was part of the IPL 2024 auction. However, he went unsold in the auction at his base price of Rs. 2 crore However, Star Sports has added the Aussie legend to the commentary panel for IPL 2024.

IPL 2024 is set to begin on Friday, March 22 with the opening game between CSK and RCB. While Ruturaj Gaikwad leads CSK in IPL 2024, Faf du Plessis is the captain of RCB. Both sides will collide at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Watch: Steve Smith decodes Virat Kohli’s cover drive

During a video on Star Sports, Steve Smith decoded Virat Kohli’s cover drive. He imitated Kohli’s style for a cover drive on the screen. Smith also added that it is also his favorite shot.

“So we are decoding Virat Kohli here. And I am talking about Virat’s favorite shot, which is the cover drive. In the whole world, I like Kohli’s cover drive the most. He uses his entire face, takes his feet out and shoots in the right direction. And he also transfers his weight in the right direction and hits”, Smith said in the video. Virat Kohli’s cover drive is part of my favorite shots

Smith also added in the video that whenever Kohli plays good cover drives, it implies he is batting well. He also said Kohli’s cover drive is part of his list of favorite shots.

“We have seen many times that whenever Kohli hits a good cover drive in his career, it means that he is batting well. He has also beaten the best bowlers in the world. He regularly finds gaps in the field and hits”. 

“So this is a very beautiful shot for me. You can see a different pressure on the bowler’s face when Virat is batting well and that’s why this one shot of his is included in my list of favorite shots”, Steve Smith concluded.

Virat Kohli finished as the fourth-highest run-getter last season

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli will aim for a similar show to last season. With 2 tons and 6 half-centuries last season, Kohli finished as the fourth-highest run-getter with 639 runs. He ended as the second-highest run-getter for RCB after Faf du Plessis.

Meanwhile, Steve Smith will be seen as one of the English commentators in IPL 2024. Stuart Broad, Dale Steyn, Jacques Kallis, Tom Moody, and Paul Collingwood are some of the other English commentators for Star Sports.
