Former IPL winner with Chennai Super Kings Suresh Raina feels that Indian captain Rohit Sharma is the captain of all the 10 franchises set to participate in the 2024 edition of IPL. Even if the 36-year-old might not be captaining the Mumbai Indians this season, Raina has claimed that Rohit will be watching over every single local player in the tournament. And that’s because he will be formulating a strong Indian team for the ICC T20 World Cup in June.

As we all know, Rohit Sharma will lead the Men in Blue in the T20 WC which starts June 1 onwards. BCCI’s honorable secretary Jay Shah had made this announcement himself on the eve of India’s 4th of the 5-match Test series against England at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Suresh Raina says Rohit Sharma’s massive fan base will be after him wherever he goes

Suresh Raina, while speaking to Jio Cinema at the MA Chidambaram stadium which hosts the IPL 2024 opener between CSK and RCB, highlighted Rohit Sharma’s massive fan base. Raina claimed that his fan army will follow his lead, everywhere he goes in this edition, be it at the iconic Wankhede stadium or anywhere else in the country.

The 3-time IPL winner also backed Rohit Sharma to have a successful IPL 2024 edition for MI, highlighting the fact that he’s in sensational form at the moment. Raina also heaped praise on Rohit for the way he led the Indian team towards that wonderous 4-1 Test series win against England last month.

“When Rohit Sharma goes to Wankhede or anywhere (in the country), his fan army is very strong and the mindset in which he is playing right now, the way he led team India towards the series win against England,” Suresh Raina said via Jio Cinema.

Raina then spoke about the kind of importance he is going to have in this year’s IPL, claiming that even if he’s not the captain of Mumbai Indians, he is technically the captain of every team. And that’s solely due to the fact that Rohit Sharma will be the one to choose players from all the 10 IPL teams for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup which starts from June 1 onwards at USA and West Indies.

“And he knows that 2 months later he will have to select the team for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 from the 10 IPL teams only, so he’s basically the captain of all the 10 teams at the moment. So we cannot say that he is not the captain,” Raina concluded.
