Watch: Rishabh Pant receives a standing ovation from crowd as he walks out to bat in IPL 2024

After almost 14 months, Rishabh Pant made a comeback to competitive cricket in IPL 2024. As Rishabh Pant arrived to take the field in PBKS vs DC IPL 2024 match 2, the crowd at MYS International Stadium gave him a standing ovation.

Rishabh Pant leads Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024. DC takes on Punjab Kings in their opening game of IPL 2024 on Saturday, March 23. The encounter takes place at PBKS’s new home stadium- MYS International Cricket Stadium in Chandigarh.

Pant faced a car accident in December 2022. Due to operation and recovery, he spent almost 14 months away from the field. As a result, he also missed IPL 2023 last year and several crucial international tournaments like the ICC WTC final, Asia Cup 2023, and ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

Watch: Rishabh Pant gets standing ovation from crowd on comeback

In PBKS vs DC clash, Punjab Kings opted to bowl first after winning the toss. As Delhi Capitals lost the first two wickets of David Warner (29) and Mitchell Marsh (20), Rishabh Pant arrived to bat on the field. 

As he arrived at the stadium, the whole crowd gave him a standing ovation for his comeback to the field. The video of the moment sent goosebumps to viewers. Have a look at the video below.

Pant got out after scoring 18 off 13

Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals were off to a quickfire start in the opening clash against PBKS. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh opened the innings for the team. Later, Shai Hope scored 33 runs. In 12 overs, DC crossed 100 runs on the scoreboard.

However, they have already lost 4 wickets till the 12th over. Rishabh Pant slammed 2 fours to score 18 runs off 13 balls. He became a victim of pacer Harshal Patel at short fine leg as Jonny Bairstow caught him. Hence, Pant could only witness a short innings on his comeback. 

Notably, Rishabh Pant has a huge responsibility for himself in IPL 2024. Not only he aims for his comeback to the Indian team with a good show in IPL 2024, but he also needs to lead DC to a powerful comeback.

DC gave horrible show last season under David Warner

Under David Warner, Delhi Capitals gave a horrible show last season. The franchise finished in the 9th spot in the points table and remained far away from playoffs. In the prior season in IPL 2022, DC gave a far better show under skipper Rishabh Pant. The franchise lost a place in the final by a close margin to RCB in the final game. Pant will aim to come up with a better show this time.
