Michael Bracewell, a New Zealand all-rounder, argues that only playing on flat fields does not help one to develop as a hitter. The 31-year-old made the comments following India’s hard-fought triumph against New Zealand in the second T20I on a difficult Lucknow surface.

On Sunday, January 29, both India and New Zealand’s batting corps struggled to cope with the unusual turn afforded by the Lucknow track. While New Zealand only got 99 points from their 20 overs, India needed 19.5 overs to reach the objective.

A Variety Of Wickets Around The World Is A Positive Thing: Michael Bracewell

Bracewell said after New ZealanOd’s six-wicket loss that playing on such tracks is critical to developing their skill set since flat wickets may cover over gaps.

According to Stuff.co.nz, he stated: “It’s probably not a wicket that you want to play on every single time you play a Twenty 20, but once every now and then is an exciting opportunity to learn and try and grow your skills. If you play on a wicket like that all the time, or a wicket that’s flat all the time, you don’t get a true test of your skills. I think a variety of wickets around the world is a positive thing.”

Suryakumar Yadav, who was named Player of the Match, was the only hitter on either team to score at least 20 runs. Six scalps were taken by spinners from both teams.

Not An Easy Wicket To Bat On: Michael Bracewell

Bracewell, who collected 4-0-13-1 stats in Lucknow, remarked that the surface was not typical of a T20 track, as proven by India and New Zealand struggling to score runs. The all-rounder went on to say:

“I think both teams showed that the spinners bowled really well and made it really difficult to score. Not having a six scored in the game is probably a reflection of that. It was not an easy wicket to bat on, and it’s one of those games, a very exciting game, but probably a little bit different to the normal Twenty20 that we expect.”
