Sunil Gavaskar, a former Indian captain, and famous batsman think Virat Kohli’s dismal run was largely down to a few unlucky deliveries. The former opener talked about how important it is for any batter, regardless of size, to immediately have the green light when he steps out to bat.

Kohli was removed for a golden duck or a succession of low scores within a brief period when he was exceptionally unlucky. There were also some fantastic catches made, and Kohli’s emotions showed how surprised he was over his lack of luck.

On Sunday, Team India became the first ODI cricket side to win by a margin of 300 runs or more and the team with the largest victory margin in terms of runs in the 50-over format’s history.

This was accomplished by the Men in Blue during the third and final ODI they played in Thiruvananthapuram versus Sri Lanka.

India reached 390/5 in their 50 overs thanks to centuries from opener Shubman Gill (116) and Virat Kohli (166*). Lanka gave absolutely little resistance in their attempt to reach 391 and the game appeared to be over after Mohammed Siraj (4/32) threw a punishing powerplay spell. India defeated the opposition by 317 runs after bowling them out for just 73 runs.

“Often your first mistake becomes your last one”: Sunil Gavaskar On Virat Kohli

Sunil Gavaskar thinks Virat Kohli’s dismal run was largely down to a few unlucky deliveries.

“When you’re in a bad phase, often your first mistake becomes your last one. No matter how great a player you are, when you’re new to the crease, there is that initial period where you’re vulnerable and that’s where Virat Kohli was getting dismissed,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

“Luck didn’t favour him in those little moments back then. That’s why I had told you all to stay patient because that was just a bad phase that was going to pass away” Sunil Gavaskar Added.

The Men in Blue set a massive 391-run target for Dasun Shanaka and Co. in the final ODI in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, January 15. Siraj then registered figures of 4/32 in 10 overs as the Lankan Lions capitulated for 73 to be handed a 317-run drubbing.
