Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir is retired from international cricket but still is very much active in playing domestic T20I leagues across the globe. He is playing for Quetta Gladiators in PSL 2024. The side made it to the playoffs after their recent win over Lahore Qalandars.

The Pakistan pacer played his role in his team’s win against Lahore Qalandars in their last league match. The six-wicket win guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs. He picked up the key wicket of the opposition skipper Shaheen Afridi with the ball who slammed 55 off 34 balls.

Meanwhile, after the match, while the players were returning back to the pavilion, a section of the Pakistani crowd was cheering for Amir. Among them was one who shouted the word “fixer” which irked the former Pakistan cricketer. Since being found guilty in the match-fixing scandal in 2010, the left-arm pacer has tried to change his image in the international cricket circuit but has not been able to change it completely.

Initially, he ignored him but then came back and taught him a lesson as he silenced the young fan. The Gladiators won the match as they chased down 167 in 20 overs with Saud Shakeel scoring an unbeaten 88. Jason Roy scored 18 while skipper Rilee Rossoue scored 13. The side needed 14 to win off the final over and the match was finished by Mohammad Wasim smashed a six to win off the last ball.

Mohammad Amir Reacts After Quetta Gladiators Make It To PSL 2024 Knockouts

“Into the playoffs after a nail-biting match against Lahore! Thanks to Allah Almighty and a massive shoutout to Saud shakeel and wasim JNr what a finish” posted Amir on his Twitter handle after Quetta Gladiators secured a spot in the playoffs.

“You could see the emotion there at the end. Means a lot to the Quetta family. I thought they were under par. It was one of our best bowling performance of the tournament. Chat was to be positive. Nafay was swinging as hard as he could. He’s young and will learn. Saud helped him in the middle. Very happy with the formula of our team and will stick with it. We want to beat Multan and end in the top two spots, that’s our goal” said Quetta skipper Rilee Rossouw in the post-match presentation.

Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators are the final four teams to make it to the knockouts. The Qalandars who were the defending champions heading into the season just won one match in the entire league stage losing eight.

Saud Shakeel was announced as the Player of the Match for his match-winning innings of 88. He hit five fours and four sixes in his 65-ball knock. He spoke about his innings and said that he wanted to take the game deep.

“Was thinking about taking the game deep. Was getting starts but failing to convert. So that was the plan, to go further into the innings. Was finding it tough even against the new ball to play my shots. But I wanted to take it deep, even took inspiration from watching Shoaib who said the same in his interview. Those things do come in handy, knowing how to bat on this ground, knowing where the pockets are” said Shakeel.

The Quetta Gladiators still have a game remaining against Multan Sultans on March 12 before the knockouts. The match ends the league stage before the knockouts on March 15 and 16. The PSL 2024 final will be played on March 18.
