IND vs SA: I Would Look At Bringing Umran Malik Into The Team – Sunil Gavaskar On 3rd T20I In Visakhapatnam

Legendary Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has said that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) express pacer Umran Malik should receive his debut cap in the third T20I of the five-match T20I series against South Africa.

Jammu and Kashmir express pacer Umran Malik got his India call-up after his incredible performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022.

The express pacer picked 22 wickets in 14 games at an average of 20.18, an economy of 9.03 and a strike rate of 13.40, including a four-wicket haul and a five-wicket haul. Also, he won the Emerging Player of the Season award.

Meanwhile, the third match of the five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will be played at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Tuesday, June 14.

Speaking to India Today, Sunil Gavaskar said that India need a bowler like Umran, who can pick wickets in the middle overs.

Batting legend Gavaskar also mentioned that the Indian team should not make too many changes to the playing XI in the 3rd T20I.

“I would look at bringing Umran Malik into the team. What we have seen in the two matches is that we have only taken 7 (9) wickets. So we need a bowler who would be able to strike at the top and in the middle overs as well,” Sunil Gavaskar said on the eve of the 3rd T20I while speaking to India Today.

“If you have the extra pace, yes because of the extra pace, you can go for runs because the ball will speed off the bat that much quicker.

“But he has got the capability of getting wickets. Wickets are the best dot-balls, especially in the white-ball format. Not too many other changes, because you don’t want to upset the balance of the team,” he added.
