Indian vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah has ruled out the possibility of resting Indian all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, for the second Test against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru starting on March 12, Saturday.

Jadeja had a power-packed performance in the first Test in Mohali. He scored 175* with the bat, becoming the player with the highest individual score for India at No.7. His game wasn’t done, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Jadeja proceeded to take a five-wicket haul in the first innings, his 1st since 2017 in Tests. The all-rounder had the opportunity to become the first player to score 100 runs and take ten wickets in the same Test but ended up falling just one wicket short.

Following such an outing, it is almost impossible to keep the player out. This was the response from Bumrah when a reporter asked whether the management is considering resting the Saurashtra all-rounder for the pink-ball Test.

I don’t see any player to sit out after such a good game. He would want to replicate that performance and contribute more,” Bumrah said.

The day-night Test will be the third in India. The previous pink-ball Test that was played in India was against England. It ended within two days as the unpredictable nature of the ball saw 30 wickets fall inside five sessions.

We will take a call on the combination (going in with three spinners or three seamers) today after the practice session. We are playing the Pink Ball Test after a long time. There will be a few mental adjustments that we have to make.

It is not natural to catch with the pink ball for us. It is a challenge that we face. We are still new to this format, so we are taking feedback from our previous game and practicing them and trying and replicate them in the match,” Bumrah further added.

Team India’s probable playing XI for the second Test:

Rohit Sharma (c), Mayank Agarwal, Hanuma Vihari, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami.
