Sri Lanka Test captain Dimuth Karunaratne has shared that it will be a privilege to lead the team in what will be Sri Lanka’s 300th Test match when they clash against India in the first match of the two-Test series in Mohali from March 4 onwards.

Interestingly it will also be a milestone match for former India captain Virat Kohli, as he will be taking the field in his 100th Test match for India at the IS Bindra Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) stadium in Mohali, Chandigarh.

Sri Lanka was recently whitewashed in the three-match T20I series under the captaincy of Dasun Shanaka. They lost the third and final T20I in Dharamsala by 6 wickets and this was India’s third successive T20I series win under skipper Rohit Sharma.

Shreyas Iyer remained not out on 73 off 45 balls chasing 147 to win, ensuring India chased down the target in just 16.5 overs at the loss of four wickets. He was adjudged player of the match and the series for his consistency throughout the three games.

Disappointed There Will Be No Fans In Stadium For Sri Lanka’s 300 And Virat Kohli’s 100th Test: Dimuth Karunaratne

With the Punjab Cricket Association announcing that the game will be played behind closed doors due to Covid-19, the 33-year-old Dimuth Karunaratne took to social media to express his thoughts.

He was disappointed that there will be no fans in the PCA Stadium for this iconic match which is important for both Sri Lanka and India. However, Karunaratne was happy to know that the second Test which will be played in the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, will have a crowd for the first day-night encounter between the two sides.
