Indian Cricket Team had won the toss and elected to bat first in the 3rd ODI at Thiruvanthapuram. The Men in Blue had a great start to the power-play overs as they managed to score 75 runs in power-play overs for the loss of no wickets where Rohit & Shubman looked in complete control of the match.

Shubman Gill continued his purple patch as the right-handed batter smashed his 2nd ODI Century. Shubman Gill scored 116 runs in 97 balls where he struck 14 fours and 2 sixes. The batter was toying with the bowling unit and at the same time he was rotating the strike on a consistent basis.

Ashen Bandara & Jeffrey Vandersay In a Collision

At the end of 42 overs, India’s score was 291-2 where Virat Kohli’s score was 94 runs in 82 balls whereas Shreyas Iyer was on 28 runs in 24 balls. Chamika Karunaratne was bowling the 43rd over, and on the 5th ball of the over, Virat played a shot between deep square leg & deep mid-wicket whereas Ashen Bandara & Jeffrey Vandersay had a dangerous collision and Virat smashed a boundary.

The physio came in and both the players were badly injured and were carried off with the stretcher. India’s score at that time was 302-2 where Virat Kohli was on 99 runs.

Concerns for Sri Lanka

Ashen Bandara is expected to lead the batting unit and the island nation would be hoping that there are no significant injuries to Bandara & Vandersay. Sri Lanka would be well aware of the fact that they have to chase a gigantic score even in the excess of 375 as both the batters are looking in beast mode.

The stage is set for the likes of KL Rahul & Suryakumar Yadav to go berserk. Shreyas Iyer should make the most of this start as questions are being raised about his place in the team after the first 2 ODIs where he looked a bit scratchy.
