Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan, made a significant revelation regarding one of the team’s 1990s matches against India.
In the men’s Asia Cup this Sunday (August 28), the bitter rivals India and Pakistan will square off.

The two teams will be facing off for the first time since their encounter at the T20 World Cup, where Babar Azam’s team easily defeated India by 10 wickets in a group game.

Political concerns have prevented India and Pakistan from playing each other outside of international (ICC) and continental (Asia Cup) tournaments in recent years. As a result, there is usually tons of fanfare before these games.

However, both have a long history in cricket and have taken part in several noteworthy matches in the past. Wasim Akram, a legendary bowler for Pakistan, recalled one such match from 1986 when the men in green defeated India in the Austral-Asia Cup final by a narrow margin of one wicket.

Pakistan’s legendary batsman Javed Miandad had notably hit Chetan Sharma for a six with the team needing four runs to win on the final ball.

I remember that I got run out: Wasim Akram

In an interview with then-India captain Kapil Dev, Akram said that there were difficulties in the Pakistan camp during the final few overs of the match and that two of their young cricketers, Zakir Khan and Mohsin Kamal, even began to cry.

“I remember that I got run out. Tauseef Ahmed scored quickly, and Miandad followed suit. I was a teenager at the time, and I was accompanied by Zakir Khan and Mohsin Kamal, who were also teenagers. They were not in the game, yet they could not stop crying. “tum ro kyun rahe ho Bhai?” I asked. (Why are you crying?)” Akram said in a Star Sports segment, Frenemies.

“I told them if crying could make us win games, I would have cried with you all! They said, “We have to win this game.” Let us just hope Javed Bhai makes a connection “Akram continued.

Earlier in the conversation, Kapil Dev had disclosed that the defeat hurt India’s self-confidence and that he still has trouble falling asleep whenever he thinks about the match’s loss.
