Glenn Maxwell has been in the news, be it for his batting, inclusion or exclusion from the team. This time, he entered the spot-light frame even by not appearing in the scene. Meanwhile, during the recent presser ahead of the SCG ODI, Australia National Cricket Team head coach, Justin Langer addressed his matter. When the reporter put up a question relating some mistruths about Maxwell’s exclusion from recent Tests against India, Langer lost his cool.

Langer-report share heated moment

Justin Langer was frustrated regarding the recent turn of events in Australian cricket; and after the question got raised without any truth behind it, the ‘gaffer’ vent it out on the reporter. Langer claimed he had ‘no knowledge’ about Maxwell being advised by Cricket Australia to skip the county cricket in 2018 on assurances that he will be selected for Australia A tour of India. Later, Justin called the conjectures surrounding Glenn’s non-selection in Tests as “careless whispers.”

However, it had come after Trevor Hohns, the chairman of selectors, clarified that he wasn’t sure about any such instruction or from where had it come from. Also, Hohns said the players are free to make up their mind.

“Glenn is crystal clear from me, and the selectors, what he needs to do to get back in the Test team. He is crystal clear,” Langer said. “He has shown he is brilliant around the group in white-ball cricket. There have been some reports about personality – it is literally false. It’s not true.”

“He is crystal clear what he has to do, and that’s important that he knows that and that I know that as the coach and one of the selectors, and all the conjecture about it, that’s all part of the noise.”, he added.

‘No Maxwell in Tests’ has no truth to it – Justin Langer

Glenn Maxwell last featured for Australia in Tests in 2017 against Bangladesh. Since then, his red-ball career has remained in jeopardy. Though he accepts he had received offers from the counties last year to revive his Test career, Maxwell still didn’t opt, going by the message conveyed from the board. Later, when he got neglected for India A tour, Maxwell thought he would get picked for the Pakistan Tests in the UAE. Unfortunately for him, it didn’t happen as well.

Justin Langer, who was sitting and listening to all such talks from the reporter, reacted fumingly. He said,

“Are you certain that’s what happened? Did it happen? Well you’re telling me it did happen, I’m asking did it happen?” Langer told the journalist. “No, I’ve got zero knowledge of that. Careless whispers, hey,” he added before apologizing. “So sorry everyone for getting grumpy, I didn’t mean to get grumpy, but the truth is a beautiful thing.”

Meanwhile, Australia will face-off against India in the first ODI at the SCG on January 12th (Saturday).
