AUS vs ENG 2018: Alex Hales Opens Up About the Bristol Bar Incident
Updated - 21 Jan 2018, 08:00 PM
England’s batsman Alex Hales has opened up on losing his place in the ODI side after the Bristol Bar incident and has said that losing the spot ‘Hurt’ him massively. Hales was suspended by the ECB along with Ben Stokes and were under investigation for causing actual bodily harms to a 27-year-old man outside a bar after England’s win against West Indies in Bristol. Stokes was arrested by the police next day but was released.
Hales was then suspended for the remaining two ODI’s against West Indies but police him a green signal, and he faced no charges. Stokes on the other hand still has to appear in Magistrates’ Court on February 13 after being charged with affray.
However, Hales has now vowed to prove he can become a more responsible member of the team:
“It hurt massively at the time, to miss two games for something that happened off the field. It is disappointing and it will make me enjoy my time in an England shirt a hell of a lot more moving forward and cherish every moment I get on the field. In terms of going out in the middle of a series, that is the lesson I have learned from that incident. It is about being responsible when you are on England duty.”
England won the third ODI by 11 runs to seal the series 3-0 at the Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. Australia won the toss and put England to bat in first. The hosts started well and removed Jason Roy and Alex Hales inside the first ten overs. The middle order struggled as well with England at 172/5 in 35 overs. Jos Butter then scored a brilliant hundred and propelled the tourists to a big total of 302/5.
Australia could only manage 291 in their 50 overs with Aaron Finch, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis scoring half century but none of the batsmen could take their team towards victory.
