The recently-concluded 2017 was a year to cherish for Rohit Sharma. From scoring a double-century in ODI, record-equalling century in T20I to leading India for the first time, Rohit enjoyed several unforgettable moments last year.

The year began on a dismal note for him, as he was in the middle of the recovery process from a thigh injury that made him miss 10 of the 13 home Tests and the limited-overs series against England. The recently-concluded year, however, ended on a stunning note for him. But when the right-handed batsman returned to action, he did not look back.

In his first major assignment, he led Mumbai Indians to a record third title in the Indian Premier League. The 30-year old then hit the ground running in the Champions Trophy, as he finished the tournament as its second highest run-scorer after Shikhar Dhawan.

Rohit’s form in the 50-over format last year has been absolutely stunning. Since returning to the team in June, he amassed 1293 runs at 71.83 in just 21 games last year — almost matching Virat Kohli, who scored 1460 runs at 76.85, but having played five more matches in this span. He also scored the same number of hundreds (6) as Kohli at a better strike-rate than the skipper.

The year then ended on a fitting note for him in December. After making a century in his comeback Test, he was given the responsibility to lead the side in the limited-overs series against Sri Lanka and he grabbed the opportunity with both the hands. Leading the side from the front, he scored his third double century in the second ODI and the joint-fastest T20I century off just 35 balls in the second match to help the hosts win both the series.

The right-handed batsman has now set his eyes on the challenging series against South Africa, starting on Friday (January 5) in Cape Town. While only time will tell whether the team management include him in the playing eleven or not, the Mumbai star is making sure that he remains in good form, as he was seen sweating it out in the nets.
