Former Pakistan bowler Danish Kaneria opted to leave out Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in his list for the best playing XI in the T20I format for the calendar year 2021.

The former leg-spinner took to his YouTube channel where he chose four Indians, two from England and 2021 T20 World Cup winners, Australia, three from Pakistan, and one from the New Zealand side.

As expected, Pakistan’s opening batsmen, Mohammed Rizwan and Babar Azam were the openers. They have four 150+ run stands in this year alone. Jos Buttler would be the No. 3 although he is a regular opener for England in the shortest format.

The middle-order was stacked with four high-performing all-rounders. Liam Livingstone made huge progress this year as he put himself on the map with his power-hitting and useful off-spin. Mitchell Marsh, the star of the T20 World Cup was next on the list. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja would be the spinning options.

Danish Kaneria then opted to have Shaheen Afridi, who impressed throughout the group stages but faltered quite tremendously in the semifinal against Australia. Then came Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah, the Mumbai Indians (MI) who have had decent seasons by their standards.

Finally, Adam Zampa rounded up the squad. Zampa was the second-highest wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup, only behind Wanindu Hasaranga who has played a lot more games. Rishabh Pant was Kaneria’s 12th man.
