Indian opening batter Shikhar Dhawan shared an interesting story about his former Sunrisers teammate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The veteran opener revealed that Warner used to sledge him and how he used to react to the Australian star’s jibe.

Shikhar Dhawan, who was an integral part of Team India across all formats till 2018, played with David Warner for SRH during the IPL before moving to the Delhi Capitals (DC). The left-handed batter led the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014 and guided the team to the play-offs with 10 wins out of 16 games. However, he was removed from the captaincy the next season.

I Also Used To Sledge Him Back – Shikhar Dhawan

During an interview with The Lallantop, Shikhar Dhawan revealed that David Warner used to sledge him during the Test match. The southpaw said that he gave it back to him for sledging about his place in the red-ball squad.

“Opponents will try to break you mentally, especially in Test matches. Warner used to do that a lot. He told me, “Your place in the Indian team isn’t fixed. You will be dropped!” But then, I also used to sledge him back,” Dhawan told Lallantop.

“He was a gambling addict at one time. So I used to press that nerve. I would reply, “you will go back to gambling, you will become an addict again. You will sell everything.” See, it’s a rivalry! These things keep happening,” Dhawan added.

The 37-year-old played a crucial role for India in ICC tournaments and won the player of the series award in the 2013 Champions Trophy. He scored a brilliant century against Australia in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 group match before being ruled out due to a finger injury. Dhawan expressed his hope to play the upcoming 50-over World Cup at home later this year.
