Former England cricketer David Lloyd has revealed India is likely to regret leaving out Ravichandran Ashwin from the playing XI after signs of a pitch offering some turn for Moeen Ali. R Ashwin is a world-class spinner and he likes to use the rough created from the fast bowlers to keep the ball in the corridor of uncertainty.

However, India wanted to stick with the combination of all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and four out and right fast bowlers leaving out the premier off-spinner Ashwin from the playing XI. With the ball turning occasionally for Moeen Ali, he bowled a beauty to dismiss Jadeja and the pitch looks like it has started getting deteriorated.

“Neither Captain Thought There Would Be Spin Here” – David Lloyd

David Lloyd mentioned that both the captains would have been surprised by the sudden spin from the pitch on day four after Moeen Ali’s brilliant delivery. He added that only Monday could ensure if India played the right combination leaving out R Ashwin from playing XI.

“Mid-afternoon on Day Four and Moeen Ali just started to get the ball to turn. He took two huge wickets, the second with a jaffa to dismiss Ravindra Jadeja. It’s what you’d expect from a Test pitch but neither captain thought there would be spin here pre-match. So will India regret leaving out Ravichandran Ashwin? Monday will tell,” David Lloyd wrote in his column for The Daily Mail.

“Joe Root Is In The Form Of His Life” – David Lloyd

David Lloyd mentioned that Joe Root‘s slight adjustments in his technique have made him look so comfortable at the crease and lauded him for being at the top of his game. Lloyd also added about the influence of his young children watching him play might just boost his confidence levels. Root has been the standout player in the Test with his unbeaten 180 run knock in the first innings.

“Joe Root is in the form of his life and it’s no accident. When you listen to his interviews, a few things that he’s doing stand out — hard work, small technical changes and attention to detail. But most of all, enjoy it! Joe told us this is the first time his two young children have been able to watch him play and that adds to his sense of enjoyment and fulfilment,” he added.

India is currently at 181 for the loss of 6 wickets and they have a lead of 154 which might not be enough on the final day.
