Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Rashid Latif has made a bold statement, asserting that no selector in India has the guts to drop former India National Cricket Team captain Virat Kohli from the team.

Star batter Virat Kohli, who has not scored a century since 2019, struggled with the form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. After the Indian Premier League, he participated in the rescheduled Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, where he scored 11 and 20 runs.

He has also played three white-ball games, including two T20I games and one ODI game, on the same England tour, scoring just 1 and 11 runs in the T20Is while registering a score of 16 in the ODI.

Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly said that Kohli has got sensational numbers in international cricket and he has to “find his way and become successful”.

Rashid Latif, while talking about Ganguly’s statement, said that the India National Cricket Team are not winning consistently, but the BCCI president is “putting the gun on Virat’s shoulders and keeping the other players safe”.

“You are talking about one player, but the entire Indian team isn’t winning consistently either. You are putting the gun on Virat’s shoulders and keeping the other players safe. You look at the 2019 World Cup, 2021 T20 World Cup.. even when Virat didn’t perform, what were the others doing?” Latif said.

“Modern-day cricket is different. Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Kohli, Rohit Sharma.. everyone has some weakness or the other and they are exposed soon enough because of the technology we have now. But they haven’t changed their game. Kane Williamson is enduring a similar phase as Kohli. Short of length deliveries are a weakness for him. They all have to go to their basics, you need to consult your best coaches and work on your weaknesses,” Latif said on his official YouTube channel.

Kohli will be next seen in action in the third ODI against England, which will be played on Sunday at Old Trafford, Manchester. After that, he will directly participate in the Asia Cup 2022, having been rested for the entire 8-match limited-overs series against the West Indies.
