Former Australia National Cricket Team left-arm wrist-spinner Brad Hogg has shared his views on whether star batter Virat Kohli should be part of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
Former India captain Kohli’s struggles for runs is one of the biggest talking points in world cricket at the moment. The champion batter, who has not scored a century since 2019, has failed to perform well in the ongoing India tour of England 2022.
He scored only 11 and 20 runs in the Test match at the Edgbaston, Birmingham. In two T20Is, he scored just 1 and 11 runs. Also, in the one ODI Kohli has played, he registered a score of 16.
Meanwhile, Brad Hogg said that the India National Cricket Team need to field their best playing XI in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 games. He added that India will have to make some “tough decisions” regarding selection. He also feels that Kohli brings stability to the batting line-up and the Indian team management needs to stick to him.
“On the selection space, I have got my opinion and it’s the same with the Australian team. You pick your best XI for the T20 team. The game has been more aggressive. You’re scoring at higher rates and taking on the bowling. So sometimes you need to make tough decisions. But you still need that batter to bat through the innings,” Hogg said while replying to Sportskeeda’s query during a media interaction featuring Western Australia tourism.
“I think Virat Kohli is best at the top of the order where the field is up and he has got that timing to pierce the field and get his run rate up. So there are a few decisions that India has to make,” he added.
He has been under pressure in the last couple of years – Brad Hogg on Virat Kohli
Former Australia National Cricket Team wrist-spinner Brad Hogg said that Kohli has been under tremendous pressure in the last few years. He asserted:
“Look, he has been under pressure in the last couple of years with the restrictions that the players have had to lead all three formats. I think there was a bit of pressure from the hierarchies too with him captaining all three formats as well. So, that would have been playing on his mind.”
Hogg added that a lot of things have changed in Kohli’s world in the last few years and he was hopeful of the former India captain returning to form soon.
“He has had new additions to his family. So there have been lots of changes to Virat’s world. So I just want him to be back at his best because when he is at his best, it’s great to watch.”
