The India National Cricket Team captain, Shubman Gill, has produced a stunning innings and rewritten the record books in ODI cricket on Wednesday (September 30). Shubman Gill smashed a brilliant double hundred during a huge run chase against the West Indies in Guwahati.
The Indian captain’s second ODI double hundred came under pressure after India were given a huge target of 406 runs by the West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Wednesday. Earlier, Rohit Sharma creates history, becomes third Indian to score 12,000 ODI runs.

The team India captain has become the fastest batter to score an ODI double century. He reached the landmark in 125 balls, going past Ishan Kishan, who had taken 126 balls for his double hundred.
The milestone also made Gill only the second batter in ODI history to score a double hundred while chasing. The only other player to achieve this before him was Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who produced his famous double century against Afghanistan.
Shubman Gill reached 200 by taking a single. While completing the run, the Indian captain jumped and celebrated with a powerful fist pump. He then removed his helmet, placed it on the handle of his bat, and raised it high towards his teammates and the crowd.
Shubman Gill becomes first captain to score Test and ODI double hundreds
With his incredible double hundred against the West Indies in Guwahati, Gill broke several records in ODI cricket. Gill has now become the first player to score a double hundred in both Tests and ODIs while leading his team. He had earlier scored 269 against England at Edgbaston in 2025 in Test cricket.
This was Gill’s second ODI double hundred, having smashed the double century in 2023 against New Zealand in Hyderabad. He has now become only the second Indian batter to score multiple ODI double centuries, joining Rohit Sharma, who has three double centuries.
He has also become the player with the second most double ODI hundreds, with Rohit leading the list. Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle, Martin Guptill, Fakhar Zaman, Ishan Kishan, Pathum Nissanka, and Glenn Maxwell all have smashed one double century in the ODI format.

Gill has also created a world record for the fastest ODI double hundred, reaching the landmark in just 117 balls against the West Indies in Guwahati. Earlier, Auqib Nabi becomes India's worst ODI debutant in cricket history.

Gill’s unbeaten 223* has also become the highest individual score in an ODI run chase.
