India National Cricket Team captain Shubman Gill has stamped his class on ODI cricket once again as he added two major milestones to his growing record book on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

Shubman Gill surpasses Desmond Haynes to set new ODI record
Chasing the massive target of 406 runs, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill have started explosively against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The Indian captain showed aggressive intent from the start and achieved a major milestone in the 8th over itself.
Gill has now become the fastest batter to score 2,000 ODI runs in a single country. The right-hander reached the mark in just 33 innings in India. While scripting history, Gill has surpassed Desmond Haynes, who reached 2,000 runs in 36 innings in the West Indies.
Quinton de Kock did it in 37 innings in South Africa, while Hashim Amla took 38 innings to reach 2,000 runs in South Africa in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has made a big jump in the latest ICC ODI batting rankings after his stunning unbeaten 139 against the West Indies in the first ODI. The knock helped Kohli move up one place to second position with 796 rating points.
Kohli’s innings was also special, as it brought up his 55th ODI century and 86th international hundred. He now sits just behind his India teammate Shubman Gill in the ICC ODI rankings.
Gill also scored a century in the same match and strengthened his position at the top. He currently has 816 rating points, giving India the top two spots in the latest ODI batting rankings.
