Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir drew the ire of Indian fans on social media on Wednesday after the 2011 World Cup winner uploaded a photo of himself from his iconic knock of 97 in the aforementioned final as his Facebook cover picture.

Coincidentally, Gambhir changed his cover picture on the occasion of the 40th birthday of former skipper MS Dhoni.

Both Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni played iconic knocks in the 2011 World Cup final to help India win the title after a gap of 28 years.

While Gambhir smashed a brilliant 97, MS Dhoni finished off the job with an unbeaten 91.

Dhoni’s six off Nuwan Kulasekara to win the final has achieved iconic status, Gambhir has always felt that his innings haven’t been accorded due respect.

Last year, Gambhir lambasted ESPNCricinfo for a social media post on the 9th anniversary of India’s World Cup where the portal had mentioned Dhoni’s iconic six in the caption.

Gambhir responded by stating that the World Cup win was a team effort and that it was high time that they got over their “obsession for a six”.

Following Gambhir’s latest antic, fans took to social media to lambast the former opener on Twitter.
