Former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram has stated that he feels quite lucky to not be an active cricketer at the moment. While speaking to Sportskeeda, Akram said that bowlers, in the IPL, accept lucrative contracts only to get destroyed by opposing batting units.

Wasim Akram, who has served as bowling coach of the KKR previously, also had his say about the 250+ scores that are being made in IPL 2024 quite regularly.

All the 200+ carnage in IPL 2024 that took place

It all started from the game between Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi stadium where the Orange army scored 277 in the 1st innings.

Led by Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Heinrich Klaasen among others, SRH posted the highest-ever IPL total. Then a few weeks later, the Kolkata Knight Riders unleashed their power-hitting ability by posting IPL's second-highest total of 272 against Delhi Capitals. DC was on the receiving end once more when MI scored 234 runs in just 4 days.

One week later RCB, who held the record of IPL's biggest total in 2013 until the match between SRH and MI, felt what Pune Warriors India had felt. All the 5 SRH batters that batted that night at the Chinnaswamy, had strike rates of 150 with the lowest being 154 and the highest being 370 as the Orange army scored 287.

In response, RCB scored the most runs during a chase - 262 yet lost by 25 runs. Then KKR lost even after scoring 223 against Rajasthan Royals. 4 days later, SRH were in that carnage mode once again and Delhi were once again at the receiving end. Hyderabad had scored 100 runs in the first 5 overs and it had seemed as if they would touch the 300 mark easily.

But thankfully for Delhi and their fans, SRH were restricted to 266 with DC scoring 199 runs. So the 2024 IPL season has been nothing short of carnage and also proves the fact that - score 250+ in the 1st innings and win the match. Could that be a formula during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024? Time will tell.

Wasim Akram says scoring 100 runs in 5 overs is illegal

On that note, Wasim Akram thanked god that he is not an active cricketer anymore otherwise he would have been at the receiving end too. He feels that a 270+ score is similar to scoring 450-500 runs in ODI cricket. Wasim Akram also said that watching such games once or twice is fine but the same thing happening more than 3-4 times is a scary sight for bowlers.

"Thank God, I am not playing cricket in this era. I mean they are scoring 270 in 20 overs. It's like 450 or 500 in a 50-over game. If it happened once, it was okay, but this has happened three-four times, which shows how strong the batting is." - Wasim Akram said via Sportskeeda.

Wasim Akram then went on to say that scoring 100 runs in 5 overs is illegal and claimed that bowlers in IPL accept money to let batters desolate them.

"It is illegal to score 100 runs in 5 overs. How can this happen? Even if you bowl full-tosses, it is tough to do it. For bowlers, it has become like taking money and getting destroyed here. I feel for the bowlers in this format." - Wasim Akram concluded.
