Herschelle Gibbs Feels Babar Azam Can Be More Effective If He “Adds One Or Two More Attacking Options To His Game”

Former South Africa National Cricket Team player Herschelle Gibbs, who played 90 Tests, 248 ODIs and 23 T20Is, has opined that the Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Babar Azam can be more effective as a batter if he adds a couple of more “attacking options to his game”.

Babar Azam, who is the No.1 ranked batter in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings and No.3 ranked batter in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings as well as ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, has been going through a rough patch.

In the recently concluded Asia Cup 2022, which was the 15th edition of the tournament, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Babar registered scores of 10, 9, 14, 0, 30, and 5.

Overall, he scored only 68 runs in 6 games at an average of 11.33 and a strike rate of 107.93 with a top score of 30, which came against Sri Lanka in the final Super 4 stage game of the mega event.

On Friday, September 16, former South Africa National Cricket Team player Gibbs took to Twitter to state that the addition of a couple of more attacking options will be very beneficial for the all-format Pakistan captain Babar. He tweeted:

Overall, Babar has played 225 T20s and he has scored 7948 runs at an average of 44.15 and a strike rate of 127.88, including 6 centuries and 67 half-centuries.

He will be next seen in action during the 7-match T20I series between Pakistan National Cricket Team and England National Cricket Team, where he will have the opportunity to become only the second Pakistan batter to score 8000 T20 runs after veteran player Shoaib Malik.
