The India National Cricket Team is all set to resume its hunt for an ICC trophy after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL 2024, having narrowly lost the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 to Australia at home.

Entering the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 as one of the favorites, India aims to field a formidable squad for the mega event, which is set to take place in the USA and the West Indies from June 1.

It is being said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to conduct a meeting with the Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the national selectors in Delhi on April 27 to finalize the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

Indian selectors and Rohit Sharma to meet in Delhi next week

With the deadline for submitting the provisional T20 World Cup 2024 squad to the ICC on May 1, the Indian selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, is expected to meet in Delhi to select the final 15 players who will represent India in the upcoming showpiece event. 

According to Dainik Jagran, the Indian selectors and Rohit are likely to meet on April 27 or 28 in New Delhi. Since the Mumbai Indians (MI) are scheduled to face the Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 27 in an IPL 2024 game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rohit will be present in the national capital, and it would be easy for him to have discussions with the selectors regarding the T20 World Cup squad.

The report also suggested that Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar is currently on vacation abroad, and he will fly directly to Delhi to attend the meeting with his fellow selectors and the Indian skipper. The selection committee plans to discuss various players with Rohit, considering their potential inclusion in the initial squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in 2024.

They will also explore potential backup options for the mega event. The selection of Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant will be a major point of focus during the meeting, as both are expected to feature in the T20 World Cup squad. It is being said that Kohli is likely to open the innings for India alongside Rohit in the multi-nation event in the USA and West Indies.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya's T20 World Cup 2024 selection slightly uncertain

The report further claimed that Rohit, Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to get selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. And if they remain fit, they will get the tickets for the ICC event.

However, Pant's place in the squad seems slightly uncertain due to competition for the position. Sanju Samson has once again showcased his skills with Rajasthan Royals (RR), while KL Rahul's notable performance for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the ongoing IPL 2024 adds to the competition for the wicketkeeper’s role at the tournament.

Apart from them, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is also vying for selection, but his inclusion solely depends on his performance in the ongoing IPL 2024. Pandya has managed to take only 4 wickets and score 141 runs in 7 matches for the MI in the cash-rich T20 league.
