Mitchell Starc, on Friday (May 3), gave Kolkata Knight Riders a solid start with the ball by castling Ishan Kishan in the ongoing game against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium.
The two-time champions desperately needed a good start with the ball after being bowled out for 169. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya's decision to bowl first on a new pitch turned out to be spot on as KKR were off to a disastrous start.
Their batters struggled to time the ball at the start of the innings and KKR were reduced to 57 for 5 in the seventh over. Manish Pandey and Venkatesh Iyer steadied the ship before bailing the team out of trouble with an 83-run stand. KKR were looking set to post a 190-plus total at one stage but Mumbai Indians did well to restrict them to below 170. Venkatesh Iyer starred with the bat for KKR, scoring 70 off 52 balls.
KKR needed an early wicket with the ball to get the momentum and Mitchell Starc rose to the occasion. The Australia superstar dismissed the dangerous Ishan Kishan in the second over to give his team a much-needed early wicket.
Kishan hit the left-arm pacer for a four and a six on the second and third deliveries of the over. However, Starc had the last laugh as he castled Kishan on the fourth delivery. It was full delivery on the leg stump and Kishan went for another big shot but failed to make any contact with the ball. The ball went on to uproot the leg stump.
