New Zealand named a 15-man team for the three-match One-Day International series against Australia, which begins September 6 in Cairns, with fast bowler Matt Henry making a comeback after recovering from a rib injury.
Kane Williamson takes over as captain after missing the last two games against the West Indies in Barbados.
The team that won New Zealand‘s inaugural one-day series in the West Indies earlier this week has only changed Henry, with spinner Ish Sodhi leaving the lineup. Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell will fill the position of spin-bowling all-rounders in the squad after Sodhi was not picked.
We know how tough Australia are to beat in their own conditions: Kane Williamson
Kane Williamson, who took over as captain after missing the last two games against the West Indies in Barbados, said the team could not wait to cross the Tasman.
“We have a fantastic rivalry with Australia; it is usually a tremendous event for the fans, and the team looks forward to it,” Williamson stated.
“You grow up while watching the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy series and witnessing the great battles, so it is quite special to be a part of another chapter.” We know how difficult it is to beat Australia in their own home, and we are looking forward to the challenge, “He continued.
Adam Milne, who is out with an achilles injury, and Kyle Jamieson, who is dealing with a back issue, were not given selection consideration. Ben Sears, who was drafted into the Caribbean tour to fill in for Henry due to injury and has not yet made his ODI debut, kept his spot in the ODI team.
