Lancashire Announce The Signing Of India All-rounder Washington Sundar For Ongoing Season

On Wednesday, June 22 Lancashire Cricket made the announcement on the signing of the young Indian spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar for the ongoing season.

Sundar, who made his T20I debut for India in 2017 at the age of just 18 years and 80 days, is the youngest player to debut for India in T20I cricket.

Overall, he has played 31 T20Is picking 25 wickets and scoring 47 runs. He has also played 4 Tests and 4 One Day Internationals for India and has picked up 6 wickets in Test cricket and 5 wickets in ODI cricket. Also, he has scored 265 runs in Test cricket and 57 runs in ODI cricket.

Meanwhile, Lancashire Cricket stated that Sundar will join the team after rehab and his availability for the games will depend on his fitness.

“Washington, who is currently following a period of rehabilitation with the BCCI after a recent injury, will be available for the whole Royal London One-Day Cup competition, and fitness depending, a number of LV=County Championship games in July,” Lancashire stated.

Sundar had previously expressed excitement at the prospect of playing county cricket for the first time in his career.

“I am extremely excited to play county cricket for the first time with Lancashire Cricket. To play in English conditions will be a great experience for me and I can’t wait to play at Emirates Old Trafford.

“I would like to thank both Lancashire Cricket and the BCCI for allowing this opportunity happen and I’m looking forward to joining up with the squad next month,” Washington was quoted as saying by Lancashire Cricket.”

Sundar will become the sixth Indian player to play for Lancashire after Farokh Engineer, Murali Kartik, Dinesh Mongia, VVS Laxman and Sourav Ganguly.

Also, Lancashire are currently at the third spot on the County Championship division one points table just behind Surrey and Hampshire.
