Former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds died in a single-person car accident late on Saturday night and his former teammate and close friend, Michael Clarke, was devastated after learning about the incident.

Symonds was part of the Aussie team that dominated in the early-to-mid 2000s before being axed from the team following disciplinary issues. He was a vital cog in the team who could bat at any position and bowl seam up or spin.

Clarke and Symonds were an inseparable duo when the two joined hands for the first time but the friendship went through many phases before the two lost touch completely.

We became close. When he (Clarke) came into the side I used to bat with him a lot. So when he came into the side I really looked after him. That built a bond. My friendship with him is no longer and I’m comfortable with that, but I’m not gonna sit here and start slinging mud,” Symonds had told Brett Lee last month.

Mark Taylor shares heartfelt tribute to Andrew Symonds

Symonds’ death is the third loss in recent times for Australian cricket after Rod Marsh and Shane Warne also passed away. Aussie legend Mark Taylor gave a heartfelt tribute to Symonds while speaking on Channel 9.

Symo. He was an adventurer. I can’t quite believe it. Another tragic day for cricket. Bad things do happen in threes – Rod Marsh earlier this year, not long after that obviously Shane Warne, and now Simmo. Another terrible day for cricket.

Loved his fishing, he loved hiking, camping. I took Symo out one-day fishing here on Sydney Harbour with ‘The Cricket Show’ many years ago and just watching him flow a fly lure around boats was great to watch. He was an entertainer with the bat when it came to cricket, and as you say he was an imposing guy,” Taylor shared.
