Former England skipper Michael Vaughan is in the news in recent times for his comments on Justin Langer’s exit as Australia coach and the current status of England’s Test cricket after their shambolic Ashes series loss. To add to that he has also recently commented on India’s memorable Test series win against Australia in 2021.

He was in awe of the team’s fight against the mighty Aussies when India won the series last year. Now Michael Vaughan has termed that series win as India’s best Test victory. India chased 328 on the fifth and final day at The Gabba to create history. Shubman Gill scored a brilliant 91 to set up India’s chase. Batting at number five, Rishabh Pant scored an unbeaten 89 and also hit the winning runs to beat Australia at the venue after 31 years.

Speaking with Ravichandran Ashwin for the latter’s Youtube channel, Vaughan spoke on a range of cricketing matters and in the same breath said that India’s win at the Gabba was their best Test victory.

To Win In Brisbane Was Special: Michael Vaughan

“I like to see the Aussies get a little bit back. And you gave it back by hanging around all day and then to get that draw and then to go to the Gabba – the Aussies don’t lose in Brisbane – and for you guys to beat them with the chase on the last day, I do think it’s the best Test series victory,” Vaughan said.

“With everything that you had to put up with, all the turmoil, to win that last game in Brisbane where Australia just don’t lose and for Rishabh (Pant) to play the way that he did, it was special. Very, very special, that series victory. Any team that beats Australia, they’re always a good team for me to watch” he further added.

Many former cricketers including Michael Vaughan predicted India’s whitewash against Australia after the first Test in Adelaide. India was bowled out for 36 in the second innings which made many believe that Australia will roll over India in the rest of the series. Vaughan also clarified what he meant by the comment he made.

“I kind of threw the bait out there last year when you guys were bowled out cheaply in Adelaide. Then all of a sudden you bounced back incredibly well to win that series. From a position of difficulty, Virat going home, and then obviously Ajinkya in the captaincy, 1-0 down in Australia. Not many teams have come back from that kind of position,” Vaughan said on a lighter note.
