No Official Suspension Issued To The Sri Lankan Trio Yet For Breaching The Bio-Secure Protocols In England

The Sri Lankan trio of Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella breaching the bio-secure protocols in England added to the team’s on-field woes. All three players were in line to face disciplinary action and the board immediately decided to send them home that time. However, as per recent reports, Mendis, Gunathilaka, and Dickwella have not received a formal suspension letter.

Kusal Mendis, Danushka Gunathilaka, and Niroshan Dickwella came under the spotlight after a late-night fiasco in Durham as they roamed around the city in a public place. All three cricketers did not even adhere to the basic health protocol of wearing a mask. As a result, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) suspended them indefinitely and called them back home.

Later, a five-member committee, consisting of retired Justice of the Supreme Court Nimal Dissanayaka and includes lawyers Panduka Keerthinanda, Asela Rekawa, Uchitha Wickremasinghe and Maj. Gen. (Retd) M.R.W. De Zoysa was forged to investigate more on the issue. However, an inquiry on the same is yet to commence. Regarding the same, the Sunday Times confirmed that even though the board suspended all three cricketers pending investigation, no formal suspension has been issued.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has put up a competitive total in the ongoing first ODI against India in Colombo of 262. The hosts struggled for the most part in the middle of the innings after starting steadily. But they finished strongly as Chamika Karunaratne struck some lusty blows towards the end.
