It was a night to forget for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), when they went up against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 6. After being smacked around the park by Shardul Thakur and Rinku Singh, the Bengaluru-based franchise couldn’t chase down the Knight Riders’ 204/7. Getting all-out for 123 and losing the match by 81 runs.

Many questions were raised regarding the shot selection of several RCB players and the manner in which they got out, with fans and critics criticizing the team’s batting performance and over-reliance on star-openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis.

“Some of our batsmen, in hindsight, if they look back on their innings, probably they were not the time to attempt those big shots… We’ll go back to the drawing room and look to alter the mistakes that we did in this game.”

Sanjay Bangar admits that RCB were outplayed in every department of the game against KKR

RCB batting coach Sanjay Bangar admitted that his team were outplayed in all departments of the game against KKR.

The only time Royal Challengers were on top in the match was in the first half of KKR’s innings when the Kolkata-based franchise was reeling at 89/5 in the 12th over. But then, Shardul Thakur’s 68-off-29 and Rinku Singh’s 46-off-33 took the score past 200 runs. RCB were then bowled out for 123.

Talking about how his side was demolished, Sanjay Bangar said:

“I thought we were outplayed in all departments of the game. Yes, we took a couple of wickets with the new ball and then through the middle. But, the way Rinku batted and the way Shardul batted, I felt that they just took the game away from us. Then, obviously, with the bat nothing clicked for us. You can sum up the game like that only.”
