India spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin applauded United Arab Emirates (UAE) for their seven-wicket win over New Zealand on Saturday (August 19) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium and said that this win will motivate young players from the countries where Test cricket is not mainstream.

Ravichandran Ashwin took over his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account to share his views on UAE’s extraordinary win against New Zealand.

Ravichandran Ashwin said that UAE’s win against the mighty Kiwis is a big achievement and added that franchise cricket had helped the nations where Test cricket is not mainstream.

The Indian spinner also brought up Rashid Khan’s example and said when he first came to Indian Premier League (IPL), Afghanistan was not considered as one of the best teams in the World Cup, but things have changed now one will refuse it.

Ashwin added that other countries may have their representation in the IPL and can change the fortune of one country.

“UAE beating New Zealand is a big achievement and it’s also showing us what franchisee cricket has succeeded in doing. There is hope for the next generation cricketer coming from countries that aren’t mainstream test nations and that’s good news for the game. When @rashidkhan_19 broke into the IPL, Afghans weren’t a feared cricketing nation at world cups but now no one can refuse that fact. The future may well see other nations having representations at the IPL and turning the fortunes of the game in their respective countries. Well done UAE,” Ravichandran Ashwin wrote on X.

Muhammad Waseem’s 55-run knock helped UAE to clinch a seven-wicket victory against New Zealand

Muhammad Waseem’s UAE won the toss and chose to bowl first. In the first inning, the Kiwis gave a target of 142 runs after Mark Chapman played a 63-run knock.

Aayan Afzal Khan led the UAE bowling attack and took three wickets in his four-over spell and gave away 20 runs. Muhammad Jawad Ullah also scalped two wickets in his two-over spell and gave away 16 runs.

In the second inning, Muhammad Wasseem played a 55-run knock from 29 balls, and Asif Khan scored 48 runs in 29 balls to end the match in the 16th over.

The third T20I match between UAE and New Zealand will take place on Sunday (August 20) at Dubai International Stadium.
