Use Break To Recharge Myself: Eoin Morgan On Missing IPL 2022

Eoin Morgan will miss IPL 2022 as he wasn’t picked by any team during IPL 2022 auction. The England player plans to use this break to recharge himself. Morgan went unsold in IPL 2022 auction. The England limited-overs skipper was part of Kolkata Knight Riders in the last season.

However, due to a poor batting show in IPL 2021, two-time IPL champions KKR released him from the squad ahead of IPL 2022 auction. In the IPL 2022 auction, Eoin Morgan kept a base price of Rs. 1.5 crores for himself. However, he remained unsold in the auction even after two rounds.

Will Be Using This Break To Recharge: Eoin Morgan

While speaking to Evening Standard, the 35-year-old said that he believed that he might be picked during the second round of the IPL 2022 auction.

“I thought my best chance was to be picked up in the second round once squads had been put together, if someone needed help as a reserve middle order, experienced player, captain, whatever. But by the time the first round finished, pretty much every team had boxed that off, so I had no chance. I won’t play any cricket for two months at least, regardless of opportunities that present themselves. I have decided to take time away given the year we have ahead,” the left-handed batsman said. 

Morgan also said that he will use this break to recharge himself.

“It’s a fact that I have not scored enough runs. I’d agree. I am viewing it as a challenge that I have been through before and I’m hoping to come out the other side. I will be using this break to recharge, but also to have a little bit of time to work on things that you don’t have time to work on while you are in competition,” Morgan further said.

Eoin Morgan played 17 matches in IPL 2021. In 16 innings, he scored 133 runs at an average of 11.08. He failed to hit any half-centuries but slammed an unbeaten 47-run knock in one game. He also failed to impress with his strike rate of 95.68. He hit 6 sixes and 8 boundaries in the tournament.
