Australia will take a cautious approach when they will select their playing XI for the decider against India in the ongoing three-match series. The host’s fast bowler Jason Behrendorff is under the injury cloud with a sore back and he might miss the third and final ODI. In fact, the rookie pacer has had a history of dealing with back problems in the past.

Meanwhile, Jason Behrendorff made his ODI debut in the first match at Sydney Cricket Ground. He gave his team a good start when he plumbed Shikhar Dhawan in front of the wickets.

Australia might make a change to their playing XI.

However, the greenhorn pacer was ineffective in the second ODI. He conceded 52 runs in 8.2 overs and scalped one wicket. Furthermore, his pace also dropped in his final spell.

Australia’s captain Aaron Finch has confirmed that Jason Behrendorff has a sore back and he is being monitored.

“Jason’s being monitored,” Finch said

“He’s had back issues in the past so it’s about managing him through this series and further forward.

“We’re going to have a chat about that and speak to the medicos.”

On the other hand, Australia might ponder to include Adam Zampa in place of Nathan Lyon, who hasn’t looked lethal in his bowling. However, Aaron Finch shared great praise for Australia’s premier Test spinner.

“I think he’s been really impressive,” Finch said.

“In Adelaide, there’s obviously a short square boundary and I thought he bowled really well, quite defensively … his role was pretty important.

“Anytime the ball has been tossed up, Rohit Sharma hit a couple (of boundaries) off him in the first game and Dhoni the other day.

“Obviously not getting a wicket, he’d have liked a bit more return for that.

“When he keeps bowling that well, he will get rewarded eventually.”

Australia won the first ODI by 34 runs whereas India bounced back to win the second by six wickets to level the series. The series decider will take place at MCG on January 18.
