It was a special day at the office for Mayank Agarwal. After a lot of turmoil in the domestic arena, he has been picked to represent Indian National Cricket Team at the highest level. However, without wasting any time, he was quick in talking with his bat. Meanwhile, he speaks on how special it has been to receive the maiden cap for India.

Earlier in the day, Mayank Agarwal became the first Indian opener to make his debut at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Boxing Day in the ongoing third Test against Australia on Wednesday. He is India’s 295th player to debut in Test cricket as he got the cap just a few minutes before the match started at the MCG.

It was a tremendous feeling – Mayank Agarwal

Marking the occasion, the batsman scored a half-century in his debut innings and became the highest run scorer on debut in Australia. Unfortunately, he was dismissed at the stroke of Tea on 76 as he nudged a delivery down the leg side to Tim Paine behind the stumps.

Speaking of the debut, the youngster quoted that his first target was to receive the cap and then knock runs for India. He revealed that a lot has gone through his mind during the walk to the middle for the first in National Jersey.

“It was a tremendous feeling to get the India Test cap. I had a lot of emotions when I got the cap. I will cherish it for the rest of my life. The first thought was 295 (his India cap number). It’s a big stage, and a big opportunity, and I had the seniors walk up to me, telling that bigger the day, bigger the opportunity to leave a mark,” Agarwal said after his impressive 76 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

“It wasn’t easy to get hold of those emotions and focus there, but it needed to be done. I just stuck to my plans and just kept telling myself, “there is a plan that I have to go through and I am just going to stick to that”. Even though it was overwhelming, it was good and I am happy with the way I started,” Agarwal added.

Well, it was quite a day for Mayank Agarwal to remember in his cricketing career. Not only he received his debut cap but also followed it up with a beautiful knock to give India a strong foundation to secure the victory.
