Avesh Khan must be having mixed feelings for his performance in this year’s Indian Premier League. After warming the bench for Delhi Daredevils in the first few games, the youngster finally got a chance and he delivered immediately.

He started his season by taking two wickets for 36 against Kings XI Punjab. More importantly, one of those two wickets was that of World Cup-winning star Yuvraj Singh. In the following game, he did even better against Kolkata Knight Riders. The right-arm pacer, known for his pace, took two more wickets for 29 including the prized scalp of 29. However, he just could not build on the early promise and went wicketless in the other 4 games he played.

The wicketless-run started during the game against eventual winners Chennai Super Kings.  The season, however, could have been different from Avesh had Colin Munro not dropped MS Dhoni off his bowling. The wicket would have given the youngster a huge boost and who knows he would have gone on to take few more wickets.

Well, in a recent interview, Avesh said that dismissing Dhoni would have been the most memorable moment for him from this season.

“Getting Yuvraj Singh was the most memorable moment for me. Unfortunately, Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) was dropped off my bowling. Had I dismissed him, it would have been the most memorable moment for him. But getting Yuvraj and Russell were also memorable,” he said.

Speaking about his performance this season, he said: ” It was a good experience.  I did well in the beginning but lost my track as the season progressed. When I asked others about it, they told me it is natural for the bowlers to go for runs in the IPL.”

Avesh Khan also had a word of praise for head coach Ricky Ponting.

“He always motivated me and backed me to do well. He always talked about positive things with me.  When a legend like Ponting says something like this to you, it motivates you to do well for the team, ” he said.
