India allrounder Hardik Pandya’s injury woes are showing no signs of coming to an end.  The selectors had not picked him up for the tour of West Indies in order to give him some time to recover from a back injury. Consequently, he missed the ODI, T20I and the Test series in West Indies.

He made his much-awaited comeback to action during the T20I series against South Africa and failed to make much of a mark. He scored 14 in one innings and picked up two wickets. He is not a part of the upcoming Test series against South Africa and is set to miss the home T20I series against Bangladesh too. India will host Bangladesh next month.

According to BCCI sources, Hardik Pandya will soon fly to the United Kingdom for an assessment of the injury, which was first sustained during the Asia Cup in Dubai last September. Along with Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah is also out of the series due to a stress fractures in his lower back.

“Hardik is also set to go the United Kingdom to consult the same doctor, who had treated him during the first injury post Asia Cup. He is certainly not playing the Bangladesh series but how long he will be out is still not clear. We will know after he comes back from the United Kingdom,” a senior BCCI source told PTI.

The report also suggested that Pandya might undergo knife for his troubled back. In such case, he is set to remain on the sidelines for nearly six months.

“Hardik was left out of Test squad as he didn’t fit in the combinations. But then he is not in Baroda’s Vijay Hazare team led by Krunal (Pandya). Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that he doesn’t need to go under the knife. Then he won’t be back before the 2020 IPL,” the source added.

Team India will be desperately hoping that their number one allrounder recovers quickly. Hardik Pandya is an integral part of the team across formats.
