Recently, after the terrorist attacks, the calls for boycotting India-Pakistan matches took the boost. However, BCCI gave complete powers to the government of India, as they want to follow whatever the orders would be. Meanwhile, the Indian women team also set to play Pakistan in order to get a direct entry in the Women’s World Cup. In between, Jhulan Goswami makes her voice on the issue.

Jhulan Goswami, who collected the man of the match award in the second ODI was present in the press conference ahead of the third ODI game. She quoted that the ultimate decision lies with the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Speaking on the issue, Jhulan Goswami quoted that playing matches against Pakistan is important for the Indian women team, as it will help them to get a direct entry to the world cup. However, they would like to respect the call of BCCI and play some positive cricket for India.

“It will be decided by the BCCI. We do not know what will happen against Pakistan, but yes all the matches are important for us and we should try to play positive and good cricket in those matches,” Goswami said on the eve of third ODI encounter with England.

Points have always been in our mind – Mithali Raj

Meanwhile, the skipper of the women team in ODI format, Mithali Raj quoted that there is an importance of points in order to make a direct entry. Further, she recollected that they played qualifiers, as they were short of three points in the previous edition of the World Cup.

The last time, I remember that we were short of three points and that is why we had to play the qualifiers. It has always been on our minds that we probably would not play against Pakistan and that is why, whatever matches we play against whoever, we should play those keeping in mind that we need those points,” Raj said.

India is currently number two on the ICC Women’s Championship table with 16 points from 14 games. Pakistan, on the other hand, is fifth with 12 points from as many games.

Well, it would be interesting to see whether BCCI would allow them to play Pakistan or not. If they fail to play Pakistan, it would automatically affect the Indian women team, as they might be short of points and the other way would be to play qualifiers again.
