Known as the Gentleman’s game- Cricket and cricketers very rarely make headlines for wrong reasons in the sporting world. Unlike Football, Rugby and many other sports, cricket doesn’t involve in physical contact with the opposition. However, some players find themselves marred with controversies involving an opposition or their own teammate or even with people in the crowd. One such cricketer, who made an image of ”bad boy” is David Warner.

Warner, who made his international debut without playing a single first-class game, has been at the pinnacle of Australian batting in all formats for about a decade. Having made over 14000 international runs, Warner has been in the grid of controversies throughout his career.

While there are plenty of bans and suspensions Warner has been charged with, the ‘Sandpaper Gate’ incident in March 2018 in Cape Town left a huge remark on his career. Warner alongside skipper Steve Smith and youngster Cameron Bancroft were banned for their actions in Newlands.

David Warner was very welcoming: Jonny Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow showered words of praise on David Warner for his behaviour off the field and hailed his helping nature to the fellow cricketers. He added that it is a completely different experience to play alongside him than playing against him on the big stage.

“It was an amazing experience. I had played against Dave [Warner] but then playing with him, it was fascinating getting an insight into the way he goes about T20 cricket,” Bairstow told in the SkySports podcast hosted by former English cricketer Rob Key alongside Michael Atherton and Nasser Hussain.

“He [Warner] has played that role [of pantomime villain] in international cricket, trying to get under the skin of the opposition but going into an environment I’d never been into before, I couldn’t have asked for much more. He was very welcoming and very helpful, whether it was on the opposition we were playing against or the pitches we were playing on,” he added.

Well, Jonny Bairstow, who made his way into Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2019, played stunning knocks alongside David Warner to help the franchise get quick starts. The duo ended up the tournament with best partnership stats as the opening pair.
