Australia’s flamboyant opener David Warner stole the spotlight recently as he scored his maiden triple century in the second Test against Pakistan in Adelaide. His unbeaten 335* (39 fours, 1 six) in the first innings helped his team so much so that the hosts won the match by an innings and 48 runs. In the process, Warner surpassed Don Bradman’s record to become the highest-scoring Australia batsman in Test cricket.

Warner had opportunity to break Brian Lara’s record of 400, but captain Tim Paine called off the innings as he declared Australia at 589/3. In response, Pakistan were skittled out for 302 in the first innings and then were enforced a follow-on. The visitors had to bat again in the 2nd innings. But, they were nowhere close to putting up a fight as they were bundled out for 239.

David Warner ends silence on Australia’s captaincy ban

Meanwhile, the Australia opener eventually ended his silence on Australia’s ban which was imposed on him by Cricket Australia (CA). For the unversed, David Warner was suspended for a year for his involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in South Africa last year. In addition to that, CA also imposed a lifelong captaincy ban on David Warner, who was the vice-captain at that time.

Warner added that he is trying to push himself to the next level in order to score runs for the team. “At the end of the day, you’ve just got to respect the decision and move on and get on with it. I haven’t looked back, I’ve just kept on looking forward. And my job is to come out and score runs. I didn’t do well in England but it’s about me trying to return to scoring runs and putting my best foot forward for the team,” Warner was quoted as saying by foxsports.com.au.

Australia are scheduled to play three-match Test series against New Zealand, with the first match to be played on December 12. David Warner said that he is looking forward to the challenge. “I backed myself and just enjoyed it. I had a bit of time out of the game to reflect on a lot of things. Now that I am back here, I am enjoying it and am hungrier than ever. We are going to come up against quality opposition (on New Zealand). It’s always a good contest,” Warner added in a statement.
