Hours after Shikhar Dhawan lashed out at the Emirates Airline, the aviation company rejected the India opener’s allegations of “unprofessional” behavior, claiming that it only acted according to South African laws.
Dhawan, on Friday (December 29), took to Twitter to post a strongly-worded message after his wife Aesha and children weren’t allowed to board a flight from Dubai to South Africa. Dhawan and family was on their way to South Africa along with the whole Indian team for the upcoming series against the Proteas. But while the other members and their wives boarded the flight for the African country, Dhawan’s family was left stranded at the airport since they could not produce birth certificates for the children.

Furious with the turn of events, Dhawan took to Twitter to slam the Airline, calling them unprofessional and even claiming that one of their employees behaved rudely for no reason at all.
1/2.Absolutely unprofessional from @emirates. Was on my way 2 SA with my fam & was told tht my wife and kids can't board the flight from Dubai to SA. Was asked to produce birth certificates & other documents fr my kids at the airport which we obviously didn't have at that moment.

2/2.They are now at Dubai airport waiting for the documents to arrive. Why didn't @emirates notify about such a situation when we were boarding the plane from Mumbai? One of the emirates' employee was being rude for no reason at all.

The Airline company, however, was quick to deny the allegations and claimed that acted only as per the law.
“Since 1 June 2015, according to South African regulations, anyone travelling to the country with a minor under 18 needs to prove parenthood or guardianship – while adults travelling alone with their children need to show that they have the consent of their non-travelling partner,” stated a release from the Emirates Airlines.
“Like all airlines, we must comply with the laws of every country in which we operate and this is a shared responsibility with passengers, who are required to hold valid travel documents for all countries on their itinerary,” the statement further read.
Meanwhile, the series against the Proteas will kick-start with the three-match Test series from January 5 in Capetown. The Tests will be followed by six One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.
