England’s white-ball captain Jos Buttler opened up about the breaking AB de Villiers’ record of the fastest century in the ODIs. He said that he would do his best to surpass that but it looked like a impossible task.

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers created history in 2015 when he set the new record of smashing the fastest ton in ODI cricket. The Proteas cricketer surpassed Corey Anderson’s 36-ball hundred record and achieved the feat in just 30 balls. It came against West Indies and he ended with the knock of 149 off 44 deliveries.

Almost 8 years have passed since then and the record of AB de Villiers is still intact. There have been few batters who are favourites to shatter that record and one among them is Jos Buttler. The keeper-batter is one of the greatest cricketers to have represented England in cricket and has many records to his name as well.

Jos Buttler’s ability to hit the ball cleanly and play aggressively right from the ball 1 sets him apart from other batters. Also with him batting in the lower middle order in ODIs, where mostly hitting is needed, he’s one of the candidates who can break AB de Villiers’ record.

Jos Buttler was asked about whether he has the record in his sights,  replying to which he said that AB de Villiers’ record is safe but he will try to for it.

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, he explained: “I will try and go for it, yeah. [But] I think it’s a pretty impossible task – 31 balls, it’s not many, is it? My fastest is 46 balls, so to shave off 15 is a lot. I thought I was going at a good pace then! I think his record’s quite safe.”

ENG vs NZ: The hundred in Sharjah would definitely be one – Jos Buttler On His  Best Knocks in IPL

Jos Buttler also talked about his best knocks in the IPL. He pointed out his innings in Sharjah and his unbeaten 94 runs against Mumbai Indians.

He elaborated: “The hundred in Sharjah would definitely be one, especially in those sort of conditions. I found the first half of that inning very tough. I got 94 not out against Mumbai Indians in the 2018 IPL at the Wankhede – that’s probably one of the best I have batted.”

Jos Buttler also added that his innings against India in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 was enjoyable for him because of the big game.

He added: “The semi-final of the [2022] T20 World Cup against India – just a really enjoyable innings, but more so for the occasion in the game and the partnership. And obviously in the 2022 IPL – maybe the hundred against RCB felt like a really good one.”

Jos Buttler was the highest run-getter for England in the T20 World Cup 2022. He scored 225 runs to his name and helped his side win the tournament.
