The former Australian cricketer Ian Chappell believes playing two Day/Night Test games against India may backfire for Australia, considering the quality of the Indian National Cricket Team. Though India have played only one Pink Ball Test, they thoroughly dominated the play against Bangladesh Cricket Team to seal a comfortable victory by an innings and 46 runs.

A recent report in ESPNCricinfo cited Cricket Australia chairman Earl Eddings saying that they would push the idea of a series with more than one pink-ball Test against the Virat Kohli-led side next year. However, former Australian skipper Ian Chappel isn’t of the same view and stated that the idea would could prove costly for Australia.

India have a strong attack – Ian Chappell

Ian Chappel said that the Virat Kohli-led side is already a force to reckon with especially in Indian conditions. He added that the idea to play a couple of Pink Ball Test matches might be advantageous to Indian team rather than the Australian Cricket Team. Ian Chappel also mentioned the improved captaincy skills of Virat Kohli in Indian conditions.

“Cricket Australia is contemplating two day-night Tests for the 2020-21 Indian tour. However, if that ploy is meant to advantage Australia, it may backfire as India have a strong attack and Kohli has already shown he’s adept at captaincy in this part of the world,” Ian Chappell said as per IANS.

Two pink ball games out of four will be too much – Sourav Ganguly

In all likelihood, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will not accept the proposal of Cricket Australia, as president Sourav Ganguly feels two pink-ball Tests in a four-match series will be too much. Recently, speaking to India Today, Sourav Ganguly said that the BCCI will assess and take a call on it when the time comes.

“Whether India goes to play two day-night Tests in Australia is not assured,” Ganguly said. “Two out of four would be a bit too much with the pink ball. We will assess it. I read it in the newspapers this morning. I haven’t heard anything from the Australian cricket board. We will deal with it as it comes.”

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would turn out. By the time Australia will be touring India in 2021, the Indian National Cricket Team will have enough experience under their belt to play Pink ball Test. Currently, the Indian team is involved in the home series against West Indies while Australians are preparing for the home series against New Zealand.
