KKR vs PBKS: "Just another day at IPL 2024" - Twitter reacts as Phil Salt, Sunil Narine's assault powers KKR to highest score at Eden Gardens

Riding on whirlwind half-centuries from Phil Salt and Sunil Narine, Kolkata Knight Riders, on Friday (April 26), piled up a mammoth total of 261/6 against Punjab Kings at the Eden Gardens.

Asked to bat first, KKR were off to a flying start with Narine and Salt firing on all cylinders from the word go. At the end of the powerplay, KKR had raced away to 76 for 0. In the 8th over, Narine completed his fifty off just 23 balls before Salt completed his fifty off only 25 balls in the ninth over.

The duo added 138 runs for the first wicket in just 62 balls. Rahul Chahar broke the stand in the 11th over by dismissing Narine to give PBKS the much-needed first breakthrough. Salt did not last long after Narine's departure and was clean-bowled by PBKS captain Sam Curran in the 13th over. The England star scored 75 runs from just 37 balls with the help of six fours and six sixes.

After the opener's departure, the likes of Venkatesh Iyer (39), Andre Russell (24), and Shreyas Iyer (28) came up with crucial cameos to take KKR to a 260-plus total for the second time in IPL 2024. KKR also broke the record for the highest T20 total at the Eden Gardens. This is the fifth time in eight games this season that KKR have crossed the 200-run mark.

A captain's knock from Shreyas Iyer. In last game when KKR needed an anchor, Shreyas scored 50(35) and made sure that KKR cross 200.

And tonight when KKR needed a cameo from him, he came in 16th over and scored 28(10).

With 261 runs on the board, KKR will be fancying themselves to win the game and bolster their spot in the top two of the IPL 2024 points table. They are currently second in the table with five wins from seven games. Another win will take them further closer to the playoffs spot.

PBKS, on the other hand, need to come up with something extraordinary to pull off the highest chase in the history of the IPL. With just two wins from eight games, PBKS are currently languishing at the ninth spot in the points table and another defeat will all but end their slim playoff chances.
