Australia’s former captain Ian Chappell has lauded the current Indian Captain, Virat Kohli for his captaincy across formats. Team India are on a roll at the moment. The Men in blue are having a fine run in international cricket and the team look ready for the ICC World T20 taking place later this year in Australia.

Chappell also believes Kohli’s captaincy has been an inspiration for his team-mates including the explosive Indian opener, Rohit Sharma.

India are on a tour to New Zealand and are eyeing a clean sweep in the T20I series having won four of the five games so far. If India manages to achieve this feat, it will become the first team to whitewash New Zealand at their home in a five-match T20 series.

The most exciting part about the series has been two consecutive super overs in successive games.

India emerged victoriously in both the super overs and both the super overs saw different heroes arise for the Men in Blue, the first of them being Rohit in the third T20I.

India needed 18 runs to win the super over. Then Rohit came to bat and hit Tim Southee for two consecutive sixes in the last two balls and helped India clinch the match and the series.

Furthermore, Chappell now believes that Rohit has been able to do this because Kohli has set exemplary examples for him.

“The fact that he has “finished off” so many of India’s victory opportunities has been an inspiration to other players to adopt a similar mentality. Rohit Sharma, in particular, has benefited from Kohli’s example, and his two sixes in the first Super Over win against New Zealand this week were a classic example of how self-belief has spread through the team,” said Chappell.

Chappell is indeed right as Kohli has been Mr.Dependable for Team India for a long time now. He has the knack of getting over the finishing line and has rescued India multiple times from tough situations.

In the fourth T20I against New Zealand in the ongoing series, Kohli stayed there until the end of the super over and finished the game for India–to help the team take a 4-0 lead over the hosts.

Besides, it will be exciting to watch if he portrays another chasing master-class in the final game of the series and helps India enjoy a clean sweep in New Zealand.
