England Cricket Team will enter the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 starting from May 30 as the top-ranked ODI sides. They have dominated since their ouster from the group stages in the 2015 World Cup. Meanwhile, the host have roped in the former Pakistan cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq to assist the spinners to strengthen their squad.

Meanwhile, Saqlain had earlier served the England team in the capacity of a bowling coach. His two-year contract got over earlier this year, and ECB didn’t renew his tenure. However, just ahead of the World Cup, they have contacted the former cricketer to assist the spinner during the tournament. Saqlain Mushtaq is currently in Pakistan and will join the team in a week’s time.

Mushtaq admitted the news and said that officials from ECB contacted him earlier this week. He will work with the spinners during the marquee tournament and said that it won’t be a problem as he knows the conditions and the cricketers well.

“I got a call from the ECB last week, requesting me to join the team during the World Cup and help out the spinners during the tournament,” Saqlain told Sportstar. “I have worked with the team in the past and know all the players. World Cup being a big tournament, I will try and help them as much as I can,” he added.

Saqlain Mushtaq will join the England squad on May 30, the day the ICC World Cup 2019 begins. England will face South Africa in the tournament opener at the Oval. As per reports, the assignment will be for nearly a couple of weeks, wherein Saqlain will work with the England spinners ‘as and when’ required. Eoin Morgan & Co have two quality spinners in Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali who will be crucial to England’s chances in the World Cup. The spinners are likely to play a crucial role with England producing flat wickets in recent times.

Saqlain Mushtaq has played 49 Tests and 169 ODIs for Pakistan and was one of the best spinners during his career.
