It was a brilliant effort from Tim Southee in the first T20I game against India. After a long time, Southee delivered goods in the white-ball cricket, as he wasn’t at his best in the recent past. Meanwhile, the Kiwis fast bowler admitted the same and quoted that it is a nice feeling to get into the zone, especially, against the Indian National Cricket Team.

Southee picked figures of 3 for 17 at the Westpac Stadium in Wellington. It was the performance, which might also earn him a chance to book the ticket to England for ICC World Cup 2019. He was walking on the pieces of thin ice and the performance like that was needed for the experienced campaigner.

I haven’t been at my best with the white-ball – Tim Southee

Speaking of the same, the Kiwis fast bowler expressed that there were times when he was at his best. But, unfortunately, failed to pick up wickets, which didn’t help him much to make things happen. However, he is happy to be among the wicket-takers in the first T20I.

“A number of guys that needed game time and I know I haven’t been at my best with the white-ball for a while,” Southee admitted after the first T20I. “It’s never nice missing out but just have to make the most of opportunities when you get them,” Tim Southee quoted.

“There have been times in the last year or so I’ve felt I’ve bowled extremely well at times and haven’t got wickets or supported [Trent] Boulty at the other end,” Southee added. “So I guess you’re always looking at ways to get better, always looking at ways to try and improve as a cricketer. So it’s just always [about being] involved in the game and look in a different way so you can get better and looking back to when you were at your best and how you were operating then,” he added.

It was a perfect team performance – Tim Southee

Further, he went on to add saying that the team is in a pretty confident mindset to seal the series in 2nd T20I. He believes that the team got a great balance in the side, which would help them to beat the Indian team once again.

“Sometimes in T20 cricket, it can feel really nice and your figures can look really different. It was just a part of almost the perfect puzzle last night, the perfect team performance. Last night was a good atmosphere and I think tomorrow will be an amazing atmosphere too,” he added.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for Southee in the next game on Friday. On the other hand, Indians would be pretty determined to seal the game at any cost.
